Resilience Shadow

by Nieves de la Fuente Gutierrez

The scene depicts a NERVA (Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Appication) and the concerns about the shadow shield that has to be created in order that the crew doesn’t have any contact to the deadly radioactive and unshielded parts of the vehicle. This protective shadow cone is the still untested answer to the high risk of setting the bodies in new ways of approaching the abyss.I got to know this project and the fact that its acronym was the same as the name of my delocated-amost alien-town and remind me of how human settlement concepts sometimes feed from simulacra.

In 2004, the NASA rover Opportunity from the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Mission began its exploration on the Martian surface at Meridiani Planum. The scientific motivation for the mission was the identification by orbital observation of regionally distributed hematite, supposed to have been formed under aqueous conditions on the early Martian surface. Between 2003 and 2006, NASA started the MARTE project in my town (Mars Analogue Rio Tinto Experiment) because of its new earned status of geochemical and mineralogical Mars terrestrial analogue.

At some point it was clear, after searching for all mineralogical evidence possible, that Rio Tinto was more a simulacrum for the Mars’ arrival, or on the other way around, could be say that the constant feed we are getting from Curiosity are pieces of the simulacrum from the terrestrial analogues that Mars has become itself?“
